We meet Norman Babcock, an eccentric 11-year-old boy who has the ability to see and speak to the dead. He communicates with his grandmother (who is a ghost) and various other spirits around town, including a street bum who died with a bad hangover. While this makes him unique, it also makes him a social outcast. His father, Perry, is frustrated and angry about Norman's "delusions," while his mother, Sandra, is supportive but worried.
